IACPR Global Conference 2010 Register today for the International Association for Corporate & Professional Recruitment's Global Conference 2010, to be held October 24-26 at the Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia. Now in its 32nd year, the IACPR Global Conference brings together the most senior corporate recruitment and retained search professionals, exploring tested and effective ways to address the challenges of the talent landscape. Our theme this year is 2010 and Beyond: Forging New Talent Paths. We are in midst of major change and turmoil – and the need for new and innovative talent strategies has never been greater. Over the past two years, it has been easy to get bogged down in day-to-day problems and immediate solutions – but developing great leaders and implementing strong talent practices are still essential to organizational success, in up times or down. Firms that don’t have a focused vision for how they will be building exceptional leadership, today and down the road, will seriously lag behind their competitors. Speakers are the top talent strategists from major corporations and well-known members of academia - with on-the-ground experiences and take-always you can use immediately on the job. The Global Conference 2010 Agenda We are currently working on the 2010 agenda. However, to get an idea of the caliber of speakers and topics we have each year, click here to see the 2009 agenda from last year. And we welcome ideas from members and attendees on content that would be of most interest to you. |
Recently we asked Philip Deming, Founder of Philip S. Deming and Associates, to talk to Talent Strategies Update about the importance of due diligence when making hiring decisions. As a former Special Agent with the United States Treasury Department, conducting criminal investigations and Top Secret Clearance, he has seen it all, and shares expert insights – and case studies – about what an employer should be looking for in any hiring situation. Says Deming, "I find some companies spend more energy on examining the backgrounds of lower to mid-entry-level positions than they do for their top executives, with dire consequences." In our newsletter, he discusses proper documentation, in-depth background checks, when to rely on the Internet and the importance of asking the right questions – all elements of a strong due diligence process every firm should have in place.
Nancie Whitehouse, 2010 Chair, shares more about the IACPR and our plans for 2009 in our Year in Review 2010. Read the proprietary White Paper on Future Trends developed as a result of discussions at our Spring 2008 Small Search Firm Forum. Participants contributed to the content and then sent the paper to their clients after the meeting - the White Paper was not made available to anyone outside the meeting until now. We will be developing new content coming out of our 2009 Forum for registrants only to share with their clients. IACPR PA Chapter Meeting May 13: High Potentials
Join us for our Philadelphia Chapter event, May 13, 2010, when a panel of experts – Dan Gallagher, Vice President, L&D Operations-Business Units, Comcast; Joanne Hutcheson, Managing Partner, Hutcheson Consulting, LLC; and Anne St. Clair, Senior Consultant, Towers Watson – discusses developing programs for high potentials, drawing on their on-the-ground experiences with creating and funding successful initiatives. Unfortunately, too many organizations have been busy focusing on short-term survival, neglecting longer term planning around future leadership. But these companies can be at significant risk, facing the disruption of normal business activities and loss of market share if management positions are not filled quickly and effectively. IACPR Spring Small Search Firm Forum 2010 Join us for the IACPR’s Spring Small Search Firm Forum 2010, a chance for smaller search firms to come together in a relaxed, collaborative environment to discuss issues that are key to growing a successful business. The goal is to share and contribute knowledge and experience – in an atmosphere of complete trust and confidentiality – with fellow retained search practitioners who understand the challenges you face and are wrestling with many of the same problems. Over the past two years, retained search firms have faced declining business and a difficult competitive landscape – fighting for share against other boutiques, the larger firms, contingency shops and in-house talent departments. Change and economic uncertainty remain the watchwords – and now, more than ever, firms need to implement strategies to help them deal with the tough realities of today and anticipate the surprises down the road. The Spring Forum 2010 Agenda Our theme this year is Stealing Share – focused on initiatives that will set your organization apart from your competitors and create a sustained advantage that will be hard to duplicate. Topics will include the results of our latest economic survey on the state of the boutique search business, marketing and sales approaches that really work, sound ways of improving efficiency, how to take advantage of the next economic cycle…and much more. Plus our guest presenter will speak to lessons learned when the economic downturn takes a fatal toll on a search business. Click here to see a copy of the current agenda – as always, we are asking attendees to suggest topics of particular interest to them. Video Panel of Experts See a video of our panel of experts - Jennifer Brooks of GlaxoSmithKline, Eileen Finn of Eileen Finn & Associates, John Goldberg of Coca-Cola and Nancie Whitehouse of Whitehouse Advisors - discuss latest recruiting trends and challenges with students from The Wharton School. |

Will you sink…or swim? Transitions into new roles are the crucibles in which leaders get their toughest tests, and they're the defining factor in professional careers today. Yet far too often, leaders fail to transition effectively into new roles. The resulting costs are high, for your career and the organization. Your Next Move, by Michael Watkins – cofounder of Genesis Advisers and author of the international bestseller The First 90 Days – shows how you can survive and thrive in all the major transitions you will face during your career, including promotion, on-boarding into a new organization, and making an international move. For more information on Your Next Move or to order a copy of the book, go to www.amazon.com. This year, IACPR and the Association for Executive Search Consultants (AESC) partnered on the AESC’s annual survey of corporate HR professionals and their perspective on talent management issues. Among the highlights: One-third of corporations report that 50%-100% of their 2008 searches were conducted on a retainer basis (although they expect to use outside search less in 2009); the primary reason for working with an outside firm is to access its broader talent pool and diversity of candidates; and clients want search firms to deliver more transparency and ongoing updates. Mark Geary, Joint President of the International Executive Search Foundation (IESF) talks about the challenges of talent management in China in his article, Recruiting and Retaining Staff in China. |
